Important IfA consultation event
The Institute for Archaeologists are hosting a consultation event about future governance at their AGM.
The event, which the IfA have entitled 'Get Charter', is intended to give members of the institute the opportunity to engage in discussion about the planned changes to the governance of the organisation. This will include an open Q&A session on the subject of the Royal Charter of Incorporation that the IfA are preparing to apply for.
A Royal Charter would be an indication of state endorsment of the organisation, an indication of permanence and stability, recognition of the Institute's pre-eminence in its field, recognition of it having a legitimate and beneficial purpose for the public good, and an indication that it is a quasi-public body with state oversight.
The IfA have made documents relating to the application available to its members through its website. Comments on these documents have been invited ahead of the event at the IfA's AGM.
Once the consultation process is completed comments will be considered and revised documentation produced. It is planned that members will able to vote on the proposals at an EGM in Spring 2013.
