ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS
-
In the event of an evaluation revealing significant
archaeological features an excavation may be required in advance
of development. AS has carried out extensive
archaeological excavations in advance of road construction,
housing development, quarrying etc. Where destruction of
archaeological remains by development is unavoidable, AS
undertakes archaeological excavations and watching briefs in
both urban and rural environments to record the buried
information.
-
AS
also has a long history of burial clearance, and two of our
cemetery projects have appeared on
Meet The Ancestors.
STANDING BUILDING RECORDING
Building archaeology is an increasingly important part of AS
work, arising from the requirements of PPG 15. AS has a highly
competent team of building researchers who undertake detailed fabric
recording and photographic surveys, as well as more rapid
architectural surveys of both vernacular and ecclesiastical
buildings during restoration or prior to conversion projects. AS
has an in-house photographic darkroom., an EDM survey team and a
large in house graphics department.
POST

Specialist analysis of the whole range of artefacts recovered during
archaeological fieldwork can be arranged, and the results of
